Little Shop of Horrors is a 1986 American rock musical horror comedy film directed by Frank Oz. It is a film adaptation of the off-Broadway musical comedy of the same name by composer Alan Menken and writer Howard Ashman about a nerdy florist shop worker who raises a vicious, raunchy plant that feeds on human blood. The 1986 film stars Rick Moranis, Ellen Greene, Vincent Gardenia, Steve Martin, and Levi Stubbs as the voice of Audrey II. The film also featured special appearances by James Belushi, John Candy, Christopher Guest, and Bill Murray. It was produced by David Geffen through The Geffen Company and released by Warner Bros. on December 19, 1986.

Plot

Seymour Krelborn is a nerdy orphan working at Mushnik's, a flower shop in urban Skid Row. He harbors a crush on fellow co-worker Audrey Fulquard, and is berated by Mr. Mushnik daily. One day as Seymour is seeking a new mysterious plant, he finds a very mysterious unidentified plant which he calls Audrey II. The plant seems to have a craving for blood and soon begins to sing for his supper. Soon enough, Seymour feeds Audrey's sadistic dentist boyfriend to the plant and later, Mushnik for witnessing the death of Audrey's ex. Will Audrey II take over the world or will Seymour and Audrey defeat it?

Why it Rocks

  1. Not only was it based on the 1982 Broadway of the same name, it was based on the 1960 low-budget film The Little Shop of Horrors which it follows the source material.
  2. Awesome and catchy musical numbers.
  3. Great downtown setting that it was filmed in Albert R. Broccoli 007 Stage at Pinewood Studios in England.
  4. Remarkable characters, especially Audrey II (known as Audrey Junior in the 1960 film) that he become one of the greatest villains in film history.
  5. Decent acting.
  6. Great humor that resemebles the humor in the original film.
  7. It's re-release on the Blu-Ray of the director's cut shows the original ending where the main antagonist won.
  8. Great puppetry where director Frank Oz really brought Audrey II (The Villain) to life.
